About Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch-Partenkirchen sits at 708 m below the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain at 2,962 m. It hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics, the first Games to include alpine skiing, and the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1978 and 2011.

The skiing

There are two separate areas. Garmisch-Classic, on the Hausberg, Kreuzeck and Alpspitze, has 40 km of runs and 18 lifts between 740 m and 2,050 m, and includes the Kandahar, the World Cup downhill course. The Zugspitze glacier area, on the Zugspitzplatt at around 2,000 to 2,650 m, has about 20 km of snow-sure runs and usually stays open into May.
