About Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Obergurgl lies at 1,930 m at the head of the Ötztal and is the highest parish in Austria. It became known in 1931, when the Swiss scientist Auguste Piccard landed on the nearby Gurgler Ferner glacier after his stratospheric balloon flight.

The skiing

The ski area has 112 km of slopes and 25 lifts between about 1,800 m and 3,030 m, and is one of the first non-glacier areas in the Alps to open each season, usually in mid-November. The Top Express gondola links the Obergurgl and Hochgurgl sectors.
